  • 1. France tries to convince America to stay with the Iran nuclear deal

  • In 2015, Iran agreed to chill on their nuclear program if the U.S. and five other world powers (including France) lifted heavy sanctions. Many called the Iran nuclear deal a historic event. Trump called it one of the worst deals Washington ever entered and threatened to "tear it up."

  • Today, Trump will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in D.C., where Macron will try to persuade Trump to not get rid of the Iran nuclear deal. France is concerned Iran's reaction to America nixing the agreement will be, as Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, "unpleasant."

  • Something to chew when you see your child side-eying the evening news...

  • If you have a son or daughter obsessed with politics, consider watching this three-minute video explaining the Iran nuclear deal along with the many opinions of supporters and critics.

  • But If your child has only heard about this in passing, Jill Fodstad warns parents to not project their own worries onto children by asking the wrong questions. "Answer their questions, rather than guessing about their interests and potentially create new worries," she said. Test their desire for a conversation about this topic with these questions:

  • • How did you learn about this?

  • • I know politics can be confusing. Would you like to talk about it?

  • • Does any of this frighten you?

  • 2. Four Killed in Shooting at Tennessee Waffle House

  • A partially nude gunman shot six people, killing four, on Sunday morning at a Waffle House near Nashville, Tennessee. The suspect, Travis Reinking, was apprehended by James Shaw Jr. When Shaw saw an opportunity, he rushed Reinking, wrestled the gun away and threw it behind the counter. Reinking then fled the scene and was arrested by police on Monday.

  • Something to chew on when your child doesn't want to go to brunch...

  • Parenting expert Deborah Gilboa says when kids hear a scary story like this, it's important to "balance it out by showing the positives and the amazing people who rushed to help."

  • If your kids hear about the Waffle House shooting, tell them about James Shaw Jr. You can say, "Isn't it amazing that there are great people in the world who are willing to do hard things to protect others?" Remind your child of all the capable adults who love him and will protect him no matter what.
