  • 1. Syria under attack

  • This weekend, dozens of Syrians died of suffocation from suspected chemical attacks in Douma, the last rebel held city near the capital. Relief workers found many of the victims (including children) in basements where they had fled to take refuge from an artillery attack.

  • The U.S. and aid groups are blaming President Assad, the Syrian president, but he denies the attack. President Trump tweeted there would be a "big price to pay," and additionally blames Russia and Iran for backing Assad and Obama for his Syrian policies.

  • Something to chew when your child stumbles on a disturbing photo online...

  • Shortly after news of the suspected chemical attacks broke, horrific photos of the tragedy flooded social media. Pediatric psychologist Jill Fodstad said it's best for parents to shield children from images because they are usually more impactful than words. However, if your child does stumble on these pictures, try these open-ended questions to analyze what your child is really thinking:

    • • Tell me how you learned about war.
    • • What does war mean to you?
    • • What do you think causes war?
    • • How does it make you feel to know that wars sometimes happen?

  • 2. Money can't buy me love

  • If you're planning to send a gift to the palace, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren't registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Instead of gifts of china and silverware, the royal couple has asked for donations to several selected charities. The charities represent a range of issues that the couple is passionate about, from enhancing the wellbeing of children with HIV to empowering women in Mumbai.

  • Something to chew on when your daughter says she wants to be a princess when she grows up...

  • Why wait until she grows up?

  • After seeing how much a small thing (like a sippy cup) made a difference when her sister was in the emergency room, Ella Bast chose to donate all her birthday gifts to kids in the hospital. Your kids don't have to go that route, they can find an option that is meaningful to them.

  • For instance, they can ask guests to forgo gifts and instead give a donation in their name to a charity they believe in or bring canned goods or books to donate. They could also participate in a service opportunity for the party such as making dolls for kids in need.

  • Something baaaaaaa-d

  • Two goats got stuck on a Pennsylvania bridge and needed a little help getting free. The Department of Transportation brought in a bucket truck and successfully rescued the two goats. We gotta admit, it's pretty cute.
