12 ways to reconnect with your spouse (on 4 different levels)

You need to have a relationship with your sweetheart on all four levels.
  • Marriage is so exciting at first. It's a new chapter in your life, and that honeymoon phase is pure bliss. However, as the excitement slows down and you two start settling into this new life of yours, you might feel a little disconnect between you and your love. Maybe you two aren't communicating as thoroughly as you used to, or you don't spend as much time together as you once did.

  • Luckily, there's a way to fix all that. Here's how you can reconnect with your spouse on four different levels:

  • Emotionally

  • 1. Write your sweetheart a love letter

  • Tell them what you love about them and what made you fall in love with them in the first place. Talk about what you hope to do together 40 years from now.

  • 2. Pay attention to their good qualities

  • Let them know what a good husband/wife they are by telling your darling about some of their best characteristics.

  • 3. Be their greatest cheerleader

  • Share your successes as well as your struggles together.

  • Intellectually

  • 1. Set goals together

  • Whether it's a goal for the next 24 hours or a goal for the next 24 years, plan your future together. Write them down and don't forget to map out the nitty-gritty details.

  • 2. Ask each other thought-provoking questions

  • Ask each other questions like, "what brings you the most joy in our marriage?" or "how can I make you happier?"

  • 3. Pick a book to read together

  • Have your own little two-person book club. You can either take time to read together or read on your own then discuss what you read once you both finish.

  • Physically

  • 1. Snuggle up together and enjoy the peaceful silence

  • The best kinds of relationships are the kinds comfortable with silence. Snuggle up to your sweetheart and just appreciate their body being close to yours.

  • 2. Go on a walk hand-in-hand

  • Take a walk to the park and talk about life. This is a sweet, casual and simple way to spend time together and appreciate each other's presence.

  • 3. Give each other a massage

  • ...with no ulterior motives. Just focus on helping your spouse relax and relieve tension. They'll love you so much for it.

  • Spiritually

  • 1. Pray together

  • You two should work to strengthen your relationship with God, so that he can be a part of your marriage. With him at the helm, you'll be able to conquer whatever comes your way.

  • 2. Share the insights you've gained through your personal study

  • Talk together about what you've learned and felt while you studied your religious texts, so you can each be a part of each other's spiritual progression.

  • 3. Go to church together

  • You two can worship together and bond through the experiences you share. Even if you two practice different faiths, this is a great way to experience first-hand something your sweetheart has faith in.

  • Marriage takes work, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. True love is worth the effort, and if you try reconnecting with each other by practicing these 12 things, you two will find great joy in your relationship.
