25 things you absolutely need to know in your twenties

I wish I had known these before I turned 20.
  • 1. You are going to be poor

  • Your twenties are the time in your life when you will be the poorest you have ever been. Food is expensive, cars are expensive and life is expensive. This is the time of debt and student loans. But, the poorer you are at a young age, the richer you will be in the future as your career and financial knowledge expand.

  • 2. You are going to have your heart broken

  • No one is going to escape heartbreak forever. Whether you are breaker or the breakee, breaking up is going to hurt. There will be a lot of tears, but after the pain, you will grow and discover who you truly want to spend your life with.

  • 3. The confusion will be real

  • Your twenties are like taking a walk through the woods and getting bitten by a shark. They are completely unpredictable and confusing.

  • 4. You will be lonely

  • 7. You will find yourself

  • People always say that high school is the time for discovering yourself, but that is not so. Your twenties are a time when you do not have to answer to anyone but yourself. You can even reinvent yourself. But one thing you must know is that you will be a completely different person when you exit this decade.

  • 8. Dating is a riddle

  • Some may date all the time and others may not. But one thing is certain: dating is the most confusing activity on the planet. At the end of the day, the right person for you will come when you least expect them to. Slow down and do not settle for anyone less than you deserve.

  • 9. You will lose friends

  • Those friends from high school and college who you promised you'd never lose contact with? You just may lose contact one day. Everyone parts ways and ends up spread out across the globe. Sometimes it is hard to keep contact when you are miles away.

  • Friends are about quality, not quantity. Your true friends will never leave your side, even if they have moved away. They will always find a way to be a part of your life. The best friend you can have is the one you don't see for months and when you do get together, it is as if nothing has changed.

  • 11. Find what makes you happy

  • Find a hobby, a skill or something else that makes you happy. Focus on your own happiness from time to time and pursue your own dreams. You can always come back to whatever makes you happy through the darker moments in life.

  • There is no ticking timer considering your life. Everyone moves at the pace they are comfortable with. Some might be faster and others slower. Take your time and enjoy the time you have been given now.

  • 13. You will fail A LOT

  • You may lose a job; you may fail a class, or you may move away only to move back in with your parents again. But with failure, comes knowledge for a later time.

  • 14. But you will also triumph

  • 23. Being an adult is hard

  • Adulthood is uncharted territory. For once, you have all the responsibilities you took for granted as a child. It takes time to learn the ropes and get the hang of it, but you will become a master at adult'ing in due time.

  • 24. Don't worry so much

  • Do not sweat the small stuff or make a mountain out of a molehill. Live in the exact moment right now, and keep your stress in check. Be positive.

  • 25. Everything is going to turn out right

  • If everything is not working out right now, it will. Give it time. You are not on a set schedule, and you don't need to meet milestones every so often. Be hopeful and cheerful. Your life is just beginning, and it will end up better than you ever imagined it would be.
