This is the REAL reason Chip and Joanna are cancelling ‘Fixer Upper’

'This has nothing to do with a fraudulent skincare line.'

Chip and Joanna Gaines were an unknown husband-wife team transforming houses before the HGTV show “Fixer Upper” made them instantly famous. Now they have their own line of furniture, paint and wallpaper.

But on September 26 they announced there wouldn’t be a season six of fixer upper. Their reasoning? Give more love to their family.

“Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses,” Joanna wrote.

But she’s clear to emphasize this step back to take time for their family doesn’t mean they’ve been struggling.

“Our family is healthy and our marriage has honestly never been stronger,” she said. “This has nothing to do with a fraudulent skincare line or anything else you’ll inevitably read. This is just us recognizing that we need to catch our breath for a moment.”

Keeping a marriage strong

Chip and Joanna are openly Christian, and anyone who has seen Fixer Upper knows they put in a lot of effort to keep their children involved in their busy lives. During an interview about what keeps their marriage strong, Chip said there is so much he loves about his wife, but there was one word that could represent why their marriage is so happy: trust.

“I could rattle off at least ninety things that she’s the best at and that I’ve learned from her, but honestly trust, above all else, is the key. She has my back. And I have hers – in all things,” he wrote.

He also added that embracing their differences has made their marriage a lot stronger.

“I like a lot of what Mother Teresa stood for. She said once, “I can do things you cannot, and you can do things I cannot. Together we can do great things.” This reminds me of Jo and me, you know we both have our individual strengths and talents that we bring to the table, but together what we can do is so much better than anything either of us could do on our own.”

What’s next?

While the Gaines take some time for their family and business, Joanna said they aren’t done renovating.

“We aren’t done working towards restoration in all things or helping out those who could use a hand. In fact, in all of these things, we are just getting started,” she writes. “Who knows what the future holds, but we’re excited for whatever is around the bend.”
