This couple was dating for a year when they discovered a photo that reveals a SHOCKING secret about their past

They had to see it to believe it.

Justin Pounders drove the moving van to Adrianne Robert’s apartment so that they could move in together, but instead of being greeted by his love, he discovered police tape and blinking lights. That was how he discovered that the woman he was going to ask to marry him had been assaulted and murdered.

Unsurprisingly, Pounders didn’t believe he would ever recover from the tragedy. How could he ever fall in love again?

But every night, Pounders’ mother prayed for her son. She told him, “This isn’t the end for you. Adrianne was meant to leave now but she won’t leave you heart-broken. She will bring you someone when you’re ready.”

Eventually, Pounders decided to try opening his heart again. He signed up for an online dating site. This is where he connected with Amy Giberson. Pounders told PEOPLE, “I saw her photo and for whatever reason, was instantly drawn to her … She just had this great energy, you could tell. I can’t explain it, but I knew I had to get to know this girl.”

Luckily, the feeling was mutual. Pounders and Giberson began calling and texting daily. Of their first meeting, Giberson said, “[W]hen we met up and we hugged, it was like I had known him my whole life.” What she didn’t realize is that she had, in fact, met Pounders 30 years previously.

The truth about their past acquaintance began to unravel about a month after they’d begun dating. One day, Pounders explained how he had gotten the scar above his eye. He told Giberson that he had fallen off the monkey bars at “Sunshine Preschool.” She was surprised by the name of the preschool because she had also attended Sunshine.

The couple determined that they had been students at the preschool at the same time, but it wasn’t until a year later that they uncovered a preschool photo. It was a group photo of the class of 3 and 4-year-olds and there were Pounders and Giberson, sitting right next to each other.

When they had begun dating, Pounders told Giberson that he liked her name because he had a crush on a girl named Amy in preschool. She had joked back to him, “Well, it’s not me, so I don’t want to hear about her!”

Once they discovered that they had gone to preschool together, Pounders remindedGiberson of this: “Don’t you remember me telling you my first crush was a girl named Amy?” he asked.

Giberson told ABC News, “That’s when I lost it. I knew right then, I was this Amy.”

She continued, “It blew my mind because I was already so in love with Justin…This connection just proved to me what my heart already felt – he was my soulmate.”

But for some reason it took a long time for these soul mates to reunite. Even though Pounders and Giberson lived in the same city, shared mutual friends and attended some of the same events, somehow their paths didn’t cross again for 30 years. Pounders told PEOPLE, “Someone or something definitely decided we weren’t supposed to reconnect until now. We’ve been so close to finding each other this whole time but didn’t until the time was right. And that’s now.”

Giberson believes that the reason they had to wait so long to reconnect is that Pounders needed to give his love to Adrianne Roberts before she died. It was only after that and after he healed from the tragedy that Pounders and Giberson were able to find each other again.

What’s more, Giberson believes that Roberts is the “guardian angel” that brought them together. She wrote, “I truly believe [Adrianne] brought us back together when Justin’s heart was ready to love again. He loves me like he’s never lost before. I don’t know how he does it but he does it without effort. He’s the happiest, silliest, most outgoing, genuine and loving man I’ve ever met and I’m the luckiest woman in the world to have found him again and get to call him mine.”

Pounders and Giberson got married in November 2016 in an old theater decorated as a 90’s homecoming dance.
