It is the fast pitter-patter of your heart. It is the smile that appears just from a thought or memory. It is racing to help someone in need. This is love.
If you take a moment and truly open your eyes, you will find that love is everywhere you look. Even on the most dreadful and despair-filled days, there is something or someone to love. Just as this video shows, love can be found in books, food and even nature. But sometimes, when life is really dark and you are teary-eyed, it is hard to find.
Below are three ways you can find love in the simple things.
1. Do something different
Many of us get caught up in our regular routine, especially when we do the same tasks day after day. When we get caught up in this monotony, we don’t recognize the beauty in the world. Instead, we concentrate on the present and think about our next task. Challenge yourself to do something different every day. Mix up your regular routine just a little bit and then enjoy the outcome. You may find something new and exciting in your life. Whether that is the love of a new food, a new walking trail, a new game or even a new radio station, you will be surprised at what a little change can do.
2. Look for the good
When life takes a turn for the worst, it is easy to concentrate on the negative. It is easy to let yourself become discouraged and troubled by the problems at hand. And when you look at life through a dark lens, you forget there are plenty of bright and beautiful things that can only be seen in the light.
In every hard situation, there is something good. Sometimes, you may have to look hard to find it, but it is there. Often, tough times strengthen family relationships and bring families together. It can also bring new relationships to light and bring about memories and lessons that will last a lifetime.
3. Take care of yourself
When you feel good about yourself, it is much easier to find the good in the world around you and in those you interact with on a daily basis. Eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep and exercising regularly are critical to helping you find love in the small things in your life.
When you don’t take care of yourself, you lose energy and feel fatigued. You may feel gross and disgusting after eating bags of junk food or pulling an all-nighter. Those feelings are the opposite of love and joy. Pay attention to how you take care of your body. If you know you need a little work in this area, make a goal to better yourself, even if it’s just for a day. Then, pay attention to how it makes you feel and the difference in those around you.
Finding love in the small and simple things in life doesn’t have to be a life-changing event. It doesn’t require you to turn your entire life upside down. It requires a few small actions and a little thought and you will find love in all those small, everyday items.
