7 everyday activities that actually help you lose weight

Are you doing these things everyday?

According to experts, you need to burn 3,500 calories to lose one pound. This number might look daunting, but calories lost add quickly when you consider everything you accomplish during the day.

Here are seven daily activities that help you drop those pounds:

1. Parenting

You burn 204 calories an hour by being a mom. Giving your child a bath, playing with them and picking up toys is a lot of work, but just remember, you’re losing weight while you’re at it.

2. Sleeping

If you like naps, I have good news for you. Did you know your risk for weight gain increases when you don’t get enough sleep? Too little sleep causes insulin sensitivity to decrease, increasing the likelihood of weight gain. Lack of sleep also makes you more likely to reach for caffeine, or prevents you from taking an evening stroll. Adults should get at least seven to nine hours of sleep every night, according to the National Sleep Foundation.

3. Shopping

I have to share our shopping ? experience with you. Today at the supermarket we ran into a mother who was dealing with her older child who was having a fair crack at a tantrum- on the floor, screaming, grabbing her mother's leg. And everyone gawked, rolled eyes or looked at each other and mouthed "oh my god." I NEARLY did the same. But then I thought "there by the grace of God go I" – sure Miss S is angelic now- sitting there, eating her rusk, babbling at me… but who knows what might happen in 5 years?! So let's not judge each other- we were all kids once and we might have kids that will do the same thing to us. My heart broke for the woman because I could see how embarrassed she was. Secondly, our supermarket gives kids free fruit- Miss S smashed a banana ?- I just love seeing kids roaming around the shop munching on free fruit!! Finally, the trolley man at @colessupermarkets today loaded all our groceries into the boot whilst telling me how raising children is hard and the least he could do was help me with the heavy stuff… I was seriously touched… a shopping trip filled with paradoxes. But also filled with loads of fruit and veggies for the family!!! ??? • • • #thewholesomedoctor #groceryshopping #shoppingwithkids #shoppingwithbaby #health #healthy #healthylifestyle #healthylife #activelifestyle #homecooking #healthybaby #healthybabyfood #healthykids #nutrition #nutritious #mumlife #mumlove #parentlife #fridayshop #melbourne #coles @colessupermarkets #fruitandveg #fruitandveggies #shoppingbuddy

Studies show that the average woman will walk two miles while shopping. If you go to the grocery store once a week, you’ll walk about eight miles a month. Walking for one mile burns 100 calories, so think about how much you can burn from a day of running errands!

4. Vacuuming

If you have kids, you probably find yourself reaching for the vacuum daily. It might even be several times a day if you always find crumbs in the couch cushions. One hour of vacuuming burns 238 calories, experts say. Just remember this next time you grab the vacuum for the third time on those crummy days.

5. Cleaning

Everyday household cleaning such as wiping down countertops, sweeping the floor and straightening up the living room burns 102 calories every 30 minutes. There’s another reason to keep a tidy home.

6. Chewing

The more you chew your food, the more weight you’ll lose. Chewing leads to proper digestion, which prevents food from accumulating into fat. Also, eating slower allows you to satisfy your hunger sooner, resulting in less food consumption.

7. Eating breakfast

One study tracked people who lost 30 pounds or more, and one shared behavior was eating breakfast. Those who eat breakfast tend to consume fewer calories, less saturated fat and lower cholesterol compared to people who skip breakfast, according to Healthy Eating.

Eating breakfast also helps your body feel energized and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat that day. So next time you think about skipping breakfast, grab some yogurt or blend a smoothie instead.

Don’t feel guilty if you didn’t have time to squeeze in a workout today. You’re already exercising by accomplishing your daily tasks.
